Mission
Wildhouse Publishing is a nonprofit independent publisher that exists to enliven the spiritual quests of people outside or on the margins of established religious and spiritual traditions through books that are thoughtful, accessible, impactful, and practical.
Wildhouse Publishing is an initiative of Just Horizons Alliance, a nonprofit venture addressing an increasingly complex, high-tech, socially fraught, and ecologically fragile world through scientific inquiry, global ethics, expansive spirituality, and innovative collaboration. Find out more about WHP, including its board of directors, by visiting the Just Horizons website.
Wildhouse Readers
The number of people in the United States who do not identify with any religion is growing by leaps and bounds. They are an even larger segment of the population in more secular nations. These so-called “Nones” are a complex group, including anti-religious people and people for whom religion is a non-issue. Yet, many of the Nones are on profound spiritual journeys. There are also many people staying engaged with religious traditions even though they’re skeptical about religion, or harbor serious reservations about current institutional expressions of their faith. They know cultural change is afoot and that religions need to adapt. What do all of these people have in common? They want to nourish their spiritual lives. At Wildhouse Publishing, these are our people—our complicated family, our reason for being. We seek to support their diverse spiritual quests, to inspire and guide, to help and heal by publishing thought-provoking, substantive, practical books by talented authors. Vision
Books from Wildhouse Publishing offer practical ways to deepen spirituality and enhance the meaning of our readers’ lives. We publish substantive spiritual explorations that our readers can trust. We aim to build an imprint that is widely respected while helping to advance the spiritual journeys of our readers.
- WHP nonfiction and meditation books (under the Wildhouse Publications Imprint) present fresh perspectives on a variety of topics in health and wellbeing, ethics, philosophy, theology, religion, and spirituality, drawing on the best wisdom of the past, evoking the beauty in ordinary life, in books that are accessible to a general audience.
- WHP fiction (under the Wildhouse Fiction imprint) offers moving, memorable stories that evoke the spiritual depths of life for our readers and open their minds to what is possible in this strange reality we share.
- WHP poetry (under the Wildhouse Poetry imprint) books take readers on journeys of heightened awareness that reconfigure visions of reality, animate personal life goals, and activate the sources of energy needed to be a transformative presence in the world.
- WHP Crossings is an imprint dedicated to the growing audience of radical Christians and post-Christians, communicating with people on the creative fringes of the Christian tradition.

Wildhouse Publishing believes that the way we operate matters. We adhere to these key principles.
- Quality: we stress quality over quantity in everything we do, from traditional to hybrid publication.
- Focus: we care deeply about our audience’s needs, and we do everything with our readers firmly in mind.
- Flexibility: we are an agile organization and responsive to the changing needs of our audience.
- Solidarity: we personally support our authors with manuscript coaching as well as proposal and marketing advice.
- Talent: we partner with diverse publishing professionals and with ground-breaking authors.
- Integrity: we tell the truth, respect our partners, and maximize transparency.
Publishing Model
Wildhouse Publishing (WHP) and its imprints are part of Wildheart Evolution, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting spirituality for people outside and on the creative margins of organized religion. WHP curates books for unconventional people with adventurous spirituality in a variety of genres, focusing on trade publication (so not academic tomes or textbooks for classrooms) and always keeping our target audience in mind. We want to support gifted authors who also intend to address the WHP audience, even when it is financially risky to do so.
WHP exclusively does traditional publishing, where the publisher carries all of the financial burden of bringing a book to reality and authors are paid through royalties. WHP does not consider hybrid publishing projects. WHP does not consider fee-for-service publishing projects.
All WHP books are fully vetted through WHP‘s editorial advisory board.
There are a hundred ways to publish a book these days. WHP is different. We are highly selective, only publishing top-quality books with the potential to touch some part of the WHP audience. And we offer an optional partnership acquisitions channel in which gifted developmental editors guide authors every step of the way, from proposal to manuscript to production (see Services for details about the conventional and partnership acquisitions channels).
